Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

useful questions our patients often ask us

Medical diagnosis, management and treatment can sometimes feel overwhelming and stressful. Below are some answers to common questions our patients have often asked.

General Surgery & Recovery

Not always. Private patients can often book directly, though we recommend a referral to ensure continuity of care.

Thanks to minimally invasive techniques, many procedures—such as hernia repairs and gallbladder removals—are performed as day cases, meaning you go home the same day. For major bowel surgery, the average stay is significantly reduced (often 3–5 days) due to our Enhanced Recovery program.

While light walking is encouraged immediately, we typically advise waiting 4 to 6 weeks before resuming heavy lifting or high-impact sports. Mr Nizar will provide a specific timeline based on whether your surgery was laparoscopic or open.

This is a common concern. While a stoma is sometimes necessary in bowel surgery to allow the area to heal, Mr Nizar specializes in nerve-sparing and sphincter-preserving surgery. Most patients do not require a permanent stoma, and if a temporary one is needed, we provide full specialist support for its eventually reversal.

About Robotic & Keyhole Surgery

No. Mr Nizar is in complete control of the robot at all times. The robot is a sophisticated tool that translates the surgeon’s hand movements into micro-movements inside the body. Think of it as a “high-definition extension” of the surgeon’s own hands.

The primary benefits include significantly less post-operative pain, a lower risk of wound infection, minimal scarring, and a much faster return to your normal routine compared to traditional “open” surgery.

Haemorrhoids & Anal Concerns

While modern treatments like Rafaelo and HALO are highly effective, new haemorrhoids can occasionally develop over time if underlying issues (like chronic constipation) aren’t addressed. We provide comprehensive dietary and lifestyle advice to minimize this risk.

Most patients describe it as “uncomfortable” rather than painful. We offer various levels of comfort management, including “gas and air” (Entonox) or conscious sedation, which makes you feel very relaxed and sleepy during the procedure.
