Hernias (Inguinal, Umbilical, Incisional)

Diagnosis & Treatment with advanced surgical procedures

A hernia can cause discomfort, a visible bulge, and in some cases, serious medical complications. Mr Nizar provides expert surgical repair for all types of hernias.

Specialist Hernia Repair Surgery

What is a hernia?

A hernia occurs when an internal organ or fatty tissue squeezes through a weak spot in the surrounding muscle or connective tissue. While some hernias cause only mild discomfort, others can lead to serious complications if the tissue becomes trapped. Mr Nizar provides expert assessment and repair for all types of abdominal wall hernias.

  • Inguinal (Groin) Hernias:
These are the most common type, often presenting as a visible lump in the groin that becomes more prominent when coughing or straining.
  • Umbilical (Belly Button) Hernias:
Frequently seen in adults due to pressure on a naturally weak spot in the abdomen; these are typically straightforward to repair but should not be ignored.
  • Incisional Hernias:
These occur at the site of a previous surgical scar where the muscle has weakened over time.

Why surgery is needed:

Hernias do not go away on their own. While some are painless, others can become “strangulated,” where the blood supply to the tissue is cut off, requiring emergency surgery. Elective repair is recommended to prevent this.

How it is treated:

Mr Nizar performs both Laparoscopic (Keyhole) Repair and Open Repair.

  • In a keyhole repair, a small mesh is placed behind the weakness to reinforce the abdominal wall.
  • This approach results in significantly less post-operative pain and a faster return to work and exercise.

Aftercare & Recovery:

Most hernia repairs are performed as day-case procedures. You can expect to return to light activities within a few days and full exercise within 4–6 weeks.

Tailored Surgical Solutions

There is no “one size fits all” approach to hernia repair. Mr Nizar offers both laparoscopic (keyhole) and traditional open repairs. By using high-quality surgical mesh to reinforce the abdominal wall, he ensures a durable repair. The choice of technique is tailored to your specific anatomy, lifestyle, and overall health, with a focus on getting you back to your normal activities as soon as possible.
